Development Status of Coconut Shell Gold Charcoal
Activated carbon is a microcrystalline carbon material made of carbonaceous material, with black appearance, developed internal pore structure, large specific surface area and strong adsorption capacity. It is a commonly used adsorbent, catalyst or catalyst carrier. Activated carbon can be divided into: wood activated carbon, fruit shell activated carbon, animal bone/blood activated carbon, mineral raw activated carbon, synthetic resin activated carbon, rubber/plastic activated carbon, etc. Activated carbon can be divided into powder, granular, irregular granular, cylindrical, spherical and fibrous according to its appearance. Activated carbon has a wide range of applications, and its uses involve almost all sectors of the national economy and people’s daily lives, such as water purification, gold extraction, decolorization of sugar solution, extraction of pharmaceutical injections, blood purification, air purification, human safety protection, etc.
The activated carbon adsorption process used in gold production has certain requirements on the type, activity, pore size, surface area, pore volume, strength and particle size of activated carbon.
Activated carbons for gold adsorption include coconut shell charcoal, apricot core charcoal, peach core charcoal, olive core charcoal, coal charcoal, etc. The adsorption properties of coconut shell charcoal and apricot core charcoal are roughly the same, but the particle size and strength of coconut shell charcoal are larger than that of apricot core charcoal. With the technological breakthrough of activated carbon manufacturers and the influence of raw material factors, coconut shell carbon has been popularized to a greater extent and has become the mainstream of activated carbon for gold. Most carbon pulp plants, heap leaching plants and cyanide-containing wastewater recovery gold process Coconut shell charcoal is the first choice.
While adsorbing gold, activated carbon will adsorb some inorganic salts and base metal impurities on the surface and pores of the carbon, mainly zinc, iron, calcium, copper, which are mainly zn2Fe(CN)6, ZnCO3 Zn(OH)2 , Fe(OH)3, Fe(OH)2, CaCO3, CuCO3·Cu(OH)2, etc., and it also adsorbs various mechanical oils, flocculants and other organic substances, thereby affecting the adsorption activity of activated carbon and making the carbon The adsorption capacity and adsorption rate are greatly reduced, resulting in “deactivation” of the activated carbon. The activated carbon that has lost its activity due to the adsorption of a large number of impurities needs to be activated and regenerated to restore its adsorption capacity.
The regeneration of activated carbon is to treat the deactivated activated carbon through special treatment, so that the activated carbon can restore most of its adsorption capacity, so that it can be reused in the adsorption process, reducing production costs and reducing waste of resources.
